Creating The Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine
It all began with a vision:
Healing people and changing lives through science and compassion.
Rauni Prittinen King, R.N. and I began seeking more options for our patients to complete the circle of care. In 1997, we founded the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine to reinvent health care by complementing the natural healing abilities of the body with the marvels of modern science.
We believe that health is not simply the absence of disease.
While western medicine excels in acute problems such as the need for emergency surgery and antibiotics, it falls short in prevention, early detection and empowering lifestyle change. By combining the best of conventional or allopathic medicine with global healing traditions, we are able to offer our patients a full range of health care options from nutrition and herbal supplements to advanced diagnostic testing and intervention. There are many paths to healing and health is a cohesive balance of mind, body, emotions and spirit.
This new approach to health is termed Integrative and Holistic Medicine. It supplements conventional diagnostics and treatment with ancient healing practices, such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, energy healing, meditation and yoga, to provide powerful, synergistic tools for the treatment and prevention of disease. Could health care address more than just the physical manifestations of disease and focus on the whole person with a holistic approach? Could people, with professional guidance, take personal responsibility for their health and be self-empowered to transform their lives?
We know the answer is a resounding yes! Join us as you begin your healing journey. Please explore one or more of our Lifestyle Enhancement Programs which are designed to empower and motivate you and your loved ones to take responsibility for your recovery and health. |
